Making Sustainable Attainable: development during recession

Thursday 24th November 2011, 09:30 - 16:00

Today planners face increasing challenges to balance economic and environmental development. Keeping up with changing definitions, policy and legal frameworks is vital to the implementation of sustainable buildings and the continuation of economic growth. Sustainable development and the “green economy” offer the opportunity to secure the region’s economic future. Planners must increasingly understand their role as facilitators of green economic development.

The conference highlighted the most recent changes in planning policy and demonstrated examples from England and Europe on how to work together with the business community to reach the common goal of sustainable development.

The agenda for the day can be viewed below.

The conference celebrated the closure of Solutions for Implementing Sustainable Construction (SISCo): A project funded by the Interreg Iva 2 seas programme. Over the last three years SISCo has provided training to Hampshire Planning officers on issues of Sustainable development, planning and construction. The project has also facilitated knowledge exchange across Europe through sustainable construction study tours and partner exchanges. The event offered the opportunity for planners to learn about outcomes of the project.
