New low carbon products developed for the construction industry

The biomimetic silicon carbide, bioSiC, is a new advanced material fabricated by low cost, environmentally-friendly routes, by a rapid net-shape mineralization process from natural wood or fibre board.  Applications of the bioSiC in the field of construction are being tested.  The material processing is patented by the University of Seville and is commercially exploited by the spin-off company Biomorphic-EBT.

This was an element of the SEEDA co-ordinated EU project – SusPurPol.

Presenters:

Professor Madelyn Marrero-Melendez
School of Building Engineering,
University of Seville, Spain.
