Southampton’s innovative district energy scheme

Southampton’s District Energy Scheme, which won Queen’s Award for Enterprise in the Sustainable Development Category in 2001, is one of the largest heating and cooling Systems in the UK. Key to the success of the scheme has been the partnership between the Southampton City Council and the operators, Utilicom. The tour will include a discussion on how Utilicom have worked in partnership with the council and developers to extend the system, and the CHP and biomass additions to the original geothermal network.
