Dr Richard Williams

Dr. Williams gained his Ph.D. in Environmental Science at Southampton University in 1982 researching into flood risk across the UK. Richard has been involved in energy policy development for a number of years both at Southampton City Council and with Dr. Alan Whitehead MP, Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Renewable and Sustainable Energy Group.

At Southampton City Council Richard fronted up the drive to obtain the Queens Award for Sustainability for the Southampton Geothermal Power Station. This was awarded in 2001 by the Lord Lieutenant of Hampshire, Mrs. Mary Fagan on behalf of the Queen to Richard for the work on CO2 emission reduction that the geothermal station achieved annually for the City. (The reduction is c10,000 tonnes of CO2 p.a.). Richard also chaired the Hampshire waste management partnership, Project Integra from 2001 – 03.

Richard is currently managing the part European Union funded SUSPURPOL (Blueprint for Sustainable Purchasing and Policy Development) Project for the 11 South Hampshire Local Authorities which comprise the “PUSH” (Partnership for Urban South Hampshire) consortium.

Dr. Williams has been a technical evaluator and rapportuer for EU funded research programmes based in Brussels for over 10 years. He has published over 30 articles, one book, edited two conference proceedings and spoken at numerous conferences across Europe and North America.

Dr. Williams is an accredited peer reviewer for the Office of Government Commerce using the Gateway Review Process. He is also an accredited peer of the Improvement & Development Agency and recently undertook a Best Value Review for the IDeA in Tower Hamlets on the subject of waste management.
