Mark Turner BSc MSc CEng MCIBSE
Head of the Utilities Team, University of Southampton
Energy and Design Engineer at the University for the past 7 years Mark has headed up the Utilities team that is responsible for the development and implementation of both technical and ‘hearts and minds’ carbon reduction projects as well as for the procurement and management of energy and water.
Mark has gained a wide range of experience during his 25 years in the construction industry having worked as both a consulting engineer and a contractor on projects as diverse as pharmaceutical production facilities, shopping centres, theatres and offices
He was responsible for the Highfield District heating and CHP scheme from its inception in 2000 to its completion and opening in 2005 by the Minister of State for the Environment, Ian Pearson MP.
With increasing energy and carbon prices as well as reporting requirements he sees the development of a system that can simply, robustly and effectively monitor and analyse and report energy and water consumption as essential to the future success and competitiveness of the University. Over the past two years he has developed a deep understanding of the gains to be aimed for and the pitfalls to be avoided in achieving this.
Mark is a Chartered Engineer and a member of the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers.
